Daily Scripture

In the same way, let your light shine in front of others. Then they will see the good things you do. And they will praise your Father who is in heaven.

So Sorry!

At 8:08 this morning (Tuesday) I discovered that voting was going to take place at FCC.  When I arrived there were already cars parked here, there and everywhere with people sitting around with signs.  Considering the back up that occurs when doing car lane, and the number of people who would be trying to go around, park, cross over the bridge, etc., it would have been difficult to do car lane safely.

Living out in the county as I do, I don't stay on top of city voting schedules, so I do apologize.  I will definitely be more attuned to that and have requested voting dates so I can notify you all in a timely manner.

And again, if you do not see the orange cones in the parking lot, please realize that circumstances out of our control prohibited us from doing car lane.  We try not to have it happen often; however, there are times when due to illness of teachers or other unexpected occurrences we just cannot do car lane efficiently.

Thanks for understanding!

Working on Paypal

We are in the process of setting Paypal up and you may notice it on the right hand side of this blog.  Please do not try to use it at this time until we are sure it is ready to go.  We will be doing some initial testing.  I will let you know when it is good to go!

THANKS!

Pictures

Yes, the picture taking that just would not end...

Last Thursday, the Nursery and Toddler 1 had their class pictures taken.  And we took the individual and sibling pictures that needed to be done.  And then the rain came down...and down...

So we will try to take class pictures of Toddler 2, Preschool 1 & 2, Pre-K 1,2, 3 this Thursday.  We are doing outside shots for everything, so we wanted to be consistent.
They do not need to wear what they wore for their individual shots unless you just want them to.

Thanks for your patience!

WOW!

Turnout at Chick-Fil-A Spirit Night was fantastic!  Thanks so much to all the parents, children, and teachers who came to support FCC MDO.  I don't have the final count yet, but I have to think we did an awesome job raising funds.  And I had many tell me that they enjoyed seeing and visiting with other MDO families.  I know the teachers enjoyed spending some time getting to know their class parents a little better also.  We hope to have another one in December, so if you didn't make this one, hopefully you will be able to come to the next one.

Kely and I have been working on finalizing playground details.  I believe that we are a few weeks away from breaking ground.  We will keep you updated!  As I mentioned at the beginning of the year, we are doing a community installation, so we will need all the volunteers we can get once the equipment arrives.  If you would like to help out organizing the work day, please let me know.  I would love some help!

Hope everyone has a blessed and safe Fall Break!
We will see you Wednesday and Thursday, October 19 and 20!

MEET OUR STAFF

I would like to introduce you all to our staff for the 2011-12 year.  Let's begin with our Specials Teachers for Music, Chapel and Spanish.

Maria Schatz teaches our music classes as well as our chapel music.  She is also the creator/director of our Christmas and Spring programs. She is married to Ryan and proud "mom' to a Westie named Murphy.  Maria has a degree in fine arts and taught Kindermusik for eight years.  She has been a part of MDO since it began in the fall of 2006.  She thoroughly enjoys singing, dancing, and making music with the kids!  In her spare time she enjoys cooking, scrapbooking, crafting and Zumba!  Maria and Ryan attend Rolling Hills Community Church.

Kellie Johnson teaches our Chapel lessons this year and works in each classroom helping the children with memory verses and reviewing the Bible lesson.  Kellie was formerly one of our Pre-K teachers and is currently working on her Masters in Education.  She is married to Greg and they have three children, Libby, Jessica and James.  Kellie enjoys crafting, interior decorating, and movies.  She and Greg have been members at FCC for many years and she is a favorite Sunday school teacher here.

Kassie Marte teaches Spanish for us at MDO and has returned this month from maternity leave.  She and her husband Melchor now have four children.  Kassie has lived on and off as a missionary in the Dominican Republic where she met and married her husband.  They are currently building a house in the Dominican in order to continue their mission work.  Kassie loves to invent recipes and try them out on her family.  Kassie has been a member of Franklin Christian Church since she was just a little girl.

FYI

FYI -

  • Don't forget Chick-Fil-A Night this coming Thursday 5:00 - 8:00 PM.  It is the one located near the Target/Kroger shopping center on Columbia Ave.  Don't cook that night and instead help us raise funds for the playground!  20% of the proceeds go to FCC MDO.  However, you MUST bring the flyer that we sent home.  If you need another, just ask!
  • Class pictures will be taken on Thursday.  Make-up pictures for those absent last week will be made up this Wednesday and Thursday.
  • We moved chapel this week to Wednesday and Thursday.  So we will have Spanish and Chapel instead of Music and Spanish just this week.  Ask your children to tell you the Fruit of the Spirit! (Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, and self-control); they know them!
  • Also, don't forget to get your Kroger Card ($5) and Chick-Fil-A calendar (twelve good coupons) for $6.  Just send note with money (cash or check to FCC) in your child's folder.
  • Looking ahead...Costume parade and Fall Parties will be October 25 and 26.  Have your child wear his/her costume to school that day.  Teachers will be sending/e-mailing details soon.

S.O.S.!

Missy Cook contacted me and there is another truck coming in on Sunday filled with pumpkins that need to be unloaded.  She is looking for volunteers anytime beginning at noon to help unload.  The pumpkin patch is located at the corner of Mallory Station and Cool Spring Boulevard (in front of Walgreens).  Any amount of help would be greatly appreciated!

PUMPKINS WITH A PURPOSE!

Come out and help out one of our MDO families by supporting their foundation.  The CooperTrooper Foundation supports families dealing with childhood cancer.  It was started by the Cooks whose son Cooper is in Ms. Betsy and Ms. Laurel's class.  Cooper is a cancer survivor, and the family is reaching out to help other families who are dealing with childhood cancer especially for those siblings who are sometimes overlooked.  You can find out more about their cause at www.coopertrooper.org.

They have a pumpkin patch this month at the corner of Mallory Station and Cool Springs Blvd (in front of the Walgreens).  There will be pumpkins for sale as well as children's activities.  All proceeds will benefit the CooperTrooper Foundation.

DATES:  October 8 - 31
TIMES:  Tuesday through Friday - 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM
                Saturdays 9:00 AM - 8:00 PM (children's activities)
                Sundays 11:00 AM - 7:00 PM (children's activities)

The Cooks could also use some volunteer help!  If you would like to give a few hours to help unload pumpkins this coming Saturday, they promise to feed you!  The trucks will be arriving with thousands of pumpkins and they will need to be unloaded!  All help would be greatly appreciated!  If you are looking for ways to "give back" in this community, this would be a wonderful way.

And if you want to buy a pumpkin from Ms. Joni, come see me out there on Sunday from 4:00 - 7:00 PM.  I'll help you pick out a good one!

FYI

Flyers went home today about Chick-Fil-A Night.  Please check your child's folder. You must have flyer to show that night in order for us to receive the 20% donation.

We are also selling 2012 Chick-Fil-A Calendars filled with valuable coupons.  Each calendar is $6 of which we get to keep $3.  Send in cash or check payable to FCC in your child's folder and we will send calendar home.

Enter from Hwy 96 only - then exit over the car bridge onto Clovercroft
Please remain in your car and put it in park.  Our teachers will unload your child for you.

FYI

Don't forget pictures tomorrow!  We plan to take them outside and will do so in the morning before and after chapel.

Don't forget to get your Kroger cards!  If you haven't gotten one yet, they are $5 worth $5 in the form of a gift card.  We receive a portion of all sales made.  Our goal is 130 cards with an average of $40 usage per month.  Should be fairly easy for us to do.  So far we have sold about 50 cards.  Please help us raise funds for the playground!  And a huge thank you to all of you who have already purchased!

There is a family who lives in the Trinity Elementary area who is interested in carpooling on Mondays and Wednesdays.  If you are interested in working something out, please e-mail at mdo@franklinchristianchurch.com and I can pass along the information.

FALL PICTURES THIS WEEK!

Don't forget fall pictures are this coming week!

Monday - All the Monday/Wednesday children
Tuesday - All Tuesday/Thursday children
Wednesday - Children who come only on Wednesday

Dress appropriately for the outdoors; we are going to try and use the trees and creek area for a picture.  Nursery pictures will be much simpler - just outside the doors.  If you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail me this weekend at mdo@franklinchristianchurch.com.

We managed a fire drill on Wednesday but didn't make it on Thursday, so we will reschedule that one for next Thursday, the 6th.  The one on Wednesday went pretty smoothly; we were out the doors in less than three minutes, but we can do better than that, so we will probably try again.  The children were great about it and followed directions which earned them some warm fuzzies.

What are warm fuzzies?  Ms. Maria, Kellie, Kely, Kassie or Joni can give out warm fuzzies (i.e. colored pom-poms) anytime they see good behavior, following directions, being polite or cooperating outside the classroom.  The warm fuzzies go in their class jar and will result in a class party of their choosing.  Someone told me that Toddler 2 has picked out a pig cake(?) for their party!  And no, not a "big" cake...a pig cake...with a pig...

HOPE EVERYONE IS ENJOYING THIS GORGEOUS WEATHER!
