MORNING CAR LANE BEGINS TUESDAY!

Morning car lane begins Tuesday, October 1st.  A flyer went home a couple of weeks ago with a map and instructions.

1.  Entrance is second entry from Clovercroft.  Look for yellow/black sign.
2.  Turn left into lane closest to Clovercroft.  Drive to car bridge and stop.
3.  Wait for car lane attendant to direct you into the parking lot in front of our entrance. 
4.  We will unload six cars, single file before allowing cars to exit.
5.  Exit will be onto Murfreesboro Rd./Hwy 96.

***Remain in car and allow teachers to unbuckle your child.
Keep child in car seat and buckled until teacher arrives.
Refrain from cell phone calls so you can watch car lane attendants for instructions.
Have tote bag ready to hand to teacher.

And finally, do not park in lot facing Murfreesboro Rd./Hwy. 96.  Do not turn around in this lot and try to drive back over bridge.  If you are bringing your child in, please use pedestrian bridge to walk them in.

Kroger Cards

Calling all you Publix shoppers!  Would you be willing to spend $50 a month at Kroger?  If you and the rest of Shining Light families and teachers would, we would earn about $350 extra dollars per month for the program.  We use these funds for toys/puzzles/games for the classroom (right now we are in need of baby dolls and bottles!).

Here's how it works:  purchase a $5 Kroger card from Betsy for...yep, $5 (for a check - make it payable to FCC).  When you go to Kroger, ask the cashier BEFORE you check out to put X number of $$ on your card.  Then use your card to check out.  5% of what you spent goes to us.

The catch for us is that SL has to spend $5000 before they will issue us a check.  However, if 150 families would spend $50 per month, we would make OVER $5000!

***For those of you who already have a card, it is still good as long as you have any kind of balance on it.  If you do not have any money left on it, it just has to have been used in the last 90 days.

Special Assistance and Guidance

We are blessed to have Ms. Jessica Davis on our staff to help with Special Needs and Assessments at Shining Light.  Ms. Jessica is here to provide any support or guidance if a child is having difficulty in his/her class.  Sometimes it just involves giving a little more attention.  Sometimes it may be a developmental or social  issue.

Kroger and Chick-Fil-A

Information is coming home Wednesday and Thursday about two ways to help us out with some extra funds.  One way is to attend our Chick-Fil-A night!  We may even have a little kid-provided entertainment that night!

The other is through using Kroger cards.  Details are on the handout in your folder.  This can really be a wonderful way to give us some extra funds to use in the classroom!

We enjoyed seeing our moms this morning.

A big thank you to those who ordered Scholastic this first half of September!  We earned 8,700 bonus points and a slew of coupons!  I've told my teachers to go "shopping" for books, puzzles, games, etc. for their classroom.

Just one clarification.  You do not have to order on the 15th or 30th.  Marcy Cookingham, mom of Tessa in Toddler 1, and former Toddler 2 teacher, closes out the orders for us on the 15th and 30th.  She checks the website for orders, spends bonus points when she sees something good, and then closes it out to have it shipped to us.

So you can order any day that you would like.  The order just won't be finalized until the 15th and 30th of the month.  Marcy does a great job with this, and we greatly appreciate her!

September Notes

Don't forget!  Muffins with Mom this week - Wednesday and Thursday 9:00 - 9:45 AM.  If mom can't be there, please feel free to send another loved one, even if it's dad!  (If you have more than one child at SL, just take both children to their respective rooms and divide your time between them.)

Don't forget!  Sign-up for portraits are this week.  Portraits will be done all next week.  Go online to sign up - www.spoiledrottenphotography.com.  If you have any special instructions (for example:  you want your baby's picture taken with older sibling...) please include that in box labeled for that.

There are two additional times available for family/older sibling portraits.  They are Wednesday morning (25th at 7:30 AM) and Thursday afternoon (26th at 4:00 - 6:00 PM).  Register for those online and include one of the additional times in the special instructions box.

Pre-K parents - don't forget to send in Field Trip permission forms and money.  

And finally, thank you for sending in your tuition payments!  Just one reminder - please make ALL checks payable to FRANKLIN CHRISTIAN CHURCH. We cannot process checks made out to Shining Light.  Thank you for your help with this!

Viral Infection

We have some viral infections similar to Hand, Foot and Mouth going around the preschool.  Look for high fever and rashes/blisters especially in the mouth.  They are contagious, so if your little one comes down with these symptoms, go to doctor and keep away from others!

Why?  To learn fun facts about chickens and eggs.  Visit the chick hatchery and do the chicken dance!

Parenting and Discipline

If there are days when you want to pull your  hair out when it comes to disciplining your children, we have a couple of options for you (that don't involve giving them away...)

1.  Shining Light teachers are reading and discussing 1,2,3 Magic for Christian Parents by Thomas W. Phelan, Ph.D. and Chris Webb, M.S., M.A., NCC.  This is a biblical and common sense approach to child-rearing.  You can find it on Amazon.com for about $12 or less.  You will find 25 women who will be able to discuss it with you :)

2.  FCC is offering a Sunday morning class called Parenting is Heart Work.  It will be offered for eight weeks beginning September 29 at 9:00 AM.  It will be led by Gail Bivins, our children's ministry director.  For more information about this class, contact gail@franklinchristianchurch.com.
