Daily Scripture

In the same way, let your light shine in front of others. Then they will see the good things you do. And they will praise your Father who is in heaven.

Matthew 5:16

FYI

Thursday and Friday I will be on a staff retreat, so if you have any questions tomorrow, please ask Kely. If you e-mail me, I will be able to check e-mails on Saturday.

Don't forget that we are collecting CHILDREN'S VITAMINS for our missionaries to Brazil where they will be handed out to families along the Amazon river. The class that collects the most vitamins earns a pizza and cookie party! We are collecting until March 15th. No gummy vitamins, please - they melt in the extreme heat down there. We are collecting both Tues/Thurs and Wednesdays.

Today in chapel we learned about Jesus' first miracle - turning water into wine. We talked about how weddings lasted almost a week, and when Jesus turned the ordinary water into wine, it turned out to be the very best wine that had been served. You can find the account in John 2. I have been covering the Wednesday Bible story while Ms. Joyce covers Thursdays. I am following her, so she will have a new story for the children tomorrow.

As I will not be there tomorrow, I am going to go ahead and make this call. I have heard that the weather is supposed to be severe tomorrow. If it is, I have asked the teachers to NOT do car lane in the afternoon. We just have too much illness going around among our teachers; some who are expecting, and some who have other jobs to get to in the afternoons and arrive dripping wet! Thank you for your understanding.

Wednesday parents - ask your children if they can sign the word MIRACLE!

HAVE A GOOD WEEKEND!
THANK YOU FOR ALLOWING US TO CARE FOR AND TEACH YOUR CHILDREN!

Miscellaneous Info

Good Morning!  The stripes may be a little much, but we started our Safari Zoo Animals this week!  It will be all about bears next week.  Thanks to Duncan's mom we even have some life size animal cut-outs in the chapel area and monkeys hanging from the ceiling!

I am working on a possible zoo day, Friday, March 11 if you are interested.  We can get a discount if we register our school with the Nashville zoo and let them know two weeks in advance of going.  You will need to accompany your child that day, and we hope to be able to do a MDO picnic afterwards.  Several of the teachers plan to go along for the fun also!  More details will be on the blog and in notes sent home in your child's folder.
Some reminders:  registration fee of $50 is due 2/24.  The majority of the confirmation letters were mailed out yesterday.  Our Pre-K is absolutely full on Tues/Thurs as is Toddler 2.  Except for just a few spots, we only have Mon/Wed openings available now.  If you think there is an error in the class assignment or days chosen when you receive your letter, just let me know.  I do have about 20 more letters to send out, so if you don't receive yours, don't panic!  It took us quite awhile yesterday to get them out - thank you to all my helpers (Kely, Joyce and Megan)!  Unfortunately, we just ran out of time yesterday before they were all completed.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

FYI

Parents, I discovered late yesterday that my e-mail (mdo@franklinchristianchurch.com) has decided to randomly throw e-mails into my junk mail file.  I thought that I was missing several e-mails from the staff at church that I usually receive weekly, so I went into my junk mail.  There I discovered many e-mails from parents and prospective parents that should never have been thrown into that file.  I am telling you this as it will take me a little while to answer all of them, but please know that I was NOT ignoring you!  I'm just a little ticked and hope to find out what happened!

Miscellaneous Information

I know it was another snow day for us, but to be honest, it was a blessing in disguise for FCC MDO.  Many of our teachers have been hit with the same type of illness going around the school, so we would have had many out today if we had been in session.  Even some of our substitutes were sick!  Let's hope and pray everyone gets some rest and time to recover over the weekend.

We are planning to have our Valentine parties and Sock Hop on Tuesday, 15th, so if your teachers were planning to exchange cards with the children today, go ahead and plan on doing that.  Also, the teachers are planning to dress in 50's clothes, so if you would like, get out the poodle skirts and rolled up blue jeans!

Reminder that February Scholastic orders are due February 24th.  The January Scholastic order still had not arrived yesterday; it comes from Missouri, so I imagine it got caught up in all this snow mess.

Also, if you have only verbally told me that you want a spot for next year, I really, really need you to fill out a registration form.  You can get one on the church website, e-mail me, or get one from the downstairs foyer bookcase.  I would love to say that I have a terrific memory and can remember all the verbals and e-mails, but I just don't!  So please get those forms to me, so I have a visual!  The problem arises when a class is almost full, and I haven't remembered a verbal request.

We will try to do a make-up day for today; however, I will need to find approximately six substitutes that day because of other commitments.  I may have to get creative in order to do one, and I may just wait until I can count on the weather being pretty (or at least warm)!

And finally, remember to pack jackets next week.  We are going outside to play some if the weather will cooperate!  We have been cooped up for too long!

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!

NO SCHOOL THURSDAY FEBRUARY 10

FCC MDO WILL CLOSED THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 10 DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER.

CLOSING EARLY

FCC MDO WILL CLOSE AT 11:30 TODAY, WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 9TH.  WILLIAMSON COUNTY ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS ARE CLOSING AT 12:30.

Wednesday

Some school systems have begun closing schools early today.  Please stay in touch with radio/TV today to see if Williamson Co. plans to close early.  I can't say right now what time we would close if they decide to do so early, but I plan to update the blog immediately if we do.  Our teachers will need to leave to pick up their own children from school, so if you can pick your MDO child up first that would help us tremendously!

Thank you!

THIS WEEK

Hopefully, there will be no snow to mess us up this week; however, let's go over our plans including Plan B!

Tuesday will be a regular day.

Wednesday - Valentine cookies/juice boxes; special craft; sock hop in the chapel area (50's dress optional).  Since our numbers are changing weekly, we will NOT do a card exchange.  We may have new ones on Wednesday, so we wouldn't want to make them feel left out.

Thursday - Valentine Sock hop and Valentine parties.  Please check your child's folder for information about your particular class.  Some are collecting $ for pizza; some are asking parents to bring items in.  Dress your child in 50's clothing for a sock hop in the chapel area.  Ms. Maria will be teaching the children some 50's dances/music.  We will also have an ice cream sundae party afterwards.  We should have them all well sugared-up by the time 2:00 PM rolls around!

If it snows this week:

Wednesday - we will resume regular activities on the 16th.  I am working on make-up days and will let you know more if and when we need to do that.

Thursday - Valentine sock hop will be next Tuesday, 15th.

This is probably the least fun part of my job trying to juggle activities for these snow days!  Hopefully, Plan B is all for nothing and we will go all week!

SICK POLICY

Please be sure and follow the sick policy in the FCC MDO handbook.  We have so many different viruses going around right now, and we are on alert when it comes to checking temperatures and noticing cranky or lethargic behavior.  We will call you if the temperature is over 100 degrees.

Our suspected case of chicken pox was not.  It was a virus.  My own daughter had it in December.  It is a chicken pox-looking rash and it can be just about anywhere on the body.  It even looks like little blisters and can be itchy.  It is contagious as long as they are broken out in the rash.

I know January and February are crazy months with the weather and illness.  We can't control the weather, but we can do our best to keep the germs down at MDO.  We will keep the premises clean and sanitized and make good use of hand sanitizer with the children if you will help us out by following the policy!  Thanks for your help in this!
