- Don't forget that registration forms for Fall 2012 are due by February 2nd. After that date I will begin to fill openings with new families who have been registering. Registration/Supply fee is due by May 2nd.
- I will close out the Scholastic order tomorrow evening (31st). The online ordering code is GPTH7. Books should arrive before Valentine's Day if you are buying gifts.
- Ask your children how many books are in the Bible. I bet they can tell you the number and that there is an Old Testament and New Testament and how many are in each! They are doing an awesome job in chapel.
The purpose of Shining Light is to connect children and their families to Jesus Christ through the nurturing of their spiritual, emotional, social, cognitive, and physical growth.
Daily Scripture
In the same way, let your light shine in front of others. Then they will see the good things you do. And they will praise your Father who is in heaven.

Upcoming
First of all, thank you for a fantastic Donuts with Dad this year. Several of my teachers commented that they thought this was the best one ever, and they enjoyed getting to meet and talk to you. We had a great turn-out too. And always remember that we completely understand if Dad can't come, so always feel free to send another family member or even Mom. The children enjoy all the activity and fuss!
Now you need to gear up for the Valentine Sock Hop. The children will have a 50's sock hop and ice cream party on Monday, February 13th and Tuesday, February 14th. Pull out the poodle skirts, gel for ducktails, rolled up jeans and/or pony tails for your little one. Ms. Maria is teaching them 50's dances and it will go along with our Critter Cuisine unit, so expect them to bake some goodies and enjoy an ice cream sundae that day. We promise to take lots of pictures and video!

Donuts with Dad
Don't forget Donuts with Dad will be Wednesday and Thursday this coming week from 9:00 - 9:45 AM. Our theme is sports, so you and your child wear your favorite sports jerseys! Goodies will be in the hallways of your child's class. Feel free to drop off tote bags in the room and escort your child to the breakfast tables in the hallway. Dads and kids will meet in the classroom and spend time meeting other families, visiting with the teachers and seeing what goes on at MDO!
Because of Donuts with Dad, we will not do car lane either Wednesday or Thursday.
If Dad can't attend, please feel free to bring another family member or even Mom!

FYI
FYI -
Tuition is now due. Please add late fee of $15 after the 25th. You may also use PayPal on this site to pay your tuition.
Also remember to add your child's name to checks in the memo area! And remember - it's 2012 not 2011!
Nursery, Toddler 1, Toddler 2 and Preschool! Please make sure that you are packing enough diapers, pull-ups, underwear and extra clothing. Please also make sure that the extra clothing is age-appropriate. We have some extra clothing here on-site but we can't guarantee gender-appropriate or size-appropriate! If your child comes home with some MDO clothes, please wash and return! Thanks!
Toddler 2 is actively working on potty-training. Please talk to the teachers to either let them know techniques that are working at home for you or ask them what they are trying in the classroom. If both you and the teachers are on the same page, it will help out so much!
And finally Monday/Wednesday parents - please treat the parking lot facing Murfreesboro Road a CAR LANE ONLY lot in the mornings. Please do not park or try to enter unless you are using the car lane. If someone other than yourself is bringing your child, please make them aware also. We do this for safety reasons.
Please be sure and read the information about MDO for fall 2012. It should be in your child's folder. There is also a registration form with it if you would like to register for next fall. Forms are due now - fees are due on or before May 2.

In the Event of Severe Weather
We had a little excitement today as the severe weather caught us by surprise. We were notified by office staff that there was a tornado warning for Williamson County...right in the middle of nap time.
We moved all the children not napping to the back blue room which is technically underground and has no windows. We moved the sleeping ones to the green Toddler 2 room where most of them continued to sleep. It is also toward the back of the building and one of the safest areas.
That will be our procedure for as long as a warning is in effect. Once the threat was over, we moved the children back to their rooms although we allowed the little ones to continue their sleepover in the green room.
We just wanted you to be aware that we watch the weather carefully and have plans in place. We just wish that the news channels had given us a heads up this morning!

We hope everyone had a good long weekend between snow and MLK day!
A few random notes:
A few random notes:
- We need your used ink cartridges! Please place them in the blue/white container on the foyer bookshelf. We've been able to purchase quite a few supplies and extras for the classrooms with them. Thank you to those who have been donating them.
- Fall 2012 registration sheets with information went home today. If you were absent, be sure and let your teacher know if you need one.
- If you have friends who are interested in FCC MDO for their child this coming fall, please tell them that the website has been updated with the latest information. They can check out details at www.franklinchristianchurch.com. We are doing tours for prospective parents on Monday and Thursday mornings.
- Don't forget DONUTS WITH DAD next Wednesday and Thursday (25th, 26th) at 9:00 AM. We will not do car lane those days so that we can be inside to welcome our dads!
- Scholastic has been set up online to order until January 31st. I will place the order ON the 31st after MDO that day. That way we should have books arrive before Valentine's Day. We appreciate the orders so much. Our Pre-K classes have benefited from free books with CD's for their center time. And we have been able to add to our curriculum with books on seasons, community helpers, character building, etc. Thank you!

FYI
Hope you are staying warm on this cold, snowy night! Here are few things that we are working on at MDO.
- There will be no MDO on Monday - MLK day - We will see you on Tuesday!
- Dental Hygiene Day is next Wednesday and Thursday. We have a special guest coming that day to speak to the Preschool and Pre-K classes. We are getting a jumpstart on our Community Helpers unit in February.
- Donuts with Dad is scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, Jan. 25 and 26 for 9:00 AM. Dads will meet in their child's classroom for donuts/goodies and to meet some of the other dads. If your child's father cannot attend, feel free to send a grandfather, uncle or even mom! We take lots of pictures, and the children are always excited to show off their classroom and friends to their family.
- Information about Fall 2012 is going out next week. I know it is way too early; call it MDO peer pressure!
- On another note - we set goals for each class during inservice on the 5th. Toddler classes - welcome to the potty! Toddler 1 will get used to the idea of what a potty is while Toddler 2 is actively working on using it. You can help us at home by encouraging those same things! We need all Preschool children to be using the potty, so if your child is headed for that class next year, heads up!
- Preschool classes will be practicing using a pencil and yes, using scissors. One practice tip - get children's scissors, an old newspaper, and let them cut away. Don't worry about cutting something out specifically. We are working on holding the scissors correctly and actually using them to cut!
- Pre-K children - we want them ready for kindergarten. Skill sets that are needed will be going home soon if they haven't already. Your teachers will be notifying you of the strengths and weaknesses of your child in the areas that are needed for kindergarten. Again, it helps if you can work on these same skills at home.
- And nursery! we didn't leave you out! Nursery children need to be mastering a sippy cup and finger foods. We want them to be able to sit in a small chair by themselves and follow a simple direction (i.e. bring me the ball). Even better if they can bring "the YELLOW ball" showing that they are learning their colors.
Enjoy your weekend and we look forward to seeing you next week!
