Daily Scripture

In the same way, let your light shine in front of others. Then they will see the good things you do. And they will praise your Father who is in heaven.

Fall Festival and Chili Cook-off

FCC Fall Festival will be Saturday, October 31 from 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM. All MDO children and parents are invited! There will be games, food, mazes and all kinds of fun treats and prizes!

It is also a chance for us to raise a little money for our playground (which I'm sure you have noticed...). Last year we raised over $1,100 and we hope to raise even more this year. We sponsor a Chili Cook-off among our LifeGroups and a Donation Only Bake Sale.

Our M.O.M. group will be sending out information on how you can help. This is our biggest fundraiser that we do, and as you know, we desperately need a playground, so please help us in this endeavor!

No School Tuesday September 29

Remember no MDO Tuesday, the 29th. We will return Thursday, October 1st. Car Lane begins Tuesday, October 6th. New MDO parents, please read over the hand-out before October 6th, so you will know where to park or enter car lane.

Also, if you have not paid your October tuition, please add a late fee of $15.

Items needed

Franklin Christian is collecting items for their Fall Festival and Walk Through Bethlehem. We need glass baby food jars (preferably the bigger ones) and the single serving plastic trays that Lean Cuisines or other type frozen dinners come in. We will have a box set up in the foyer to collect those items.
Thank you!

Illness

We wanted to let you know that there was a confirmed case of strep throat and one of chicken pox at MDO this week. Because of chapel and the classes being together or in the recess room(with the exception of Nursery), we wanted to make sure you knew. Both cases were in the Toddler 1 and 2 rooms.

My understanding is that if your child has had the chicken pox vaccine, they can still get chicken pox. It will just be a milder case. Low-grade fever and small blister-like bumps will appear. If it's a light case, they may only have a few blisters (look in hair line, back, stomach, neck and legs).

Thank you!

Information

Thank you to all the parents who brought fruit yesterday to help in our lessons from "Healthy Food, Healthy Body". We will spend the next couple of weeks learning all about different types of healthy foods. Tomorrow's chapel lesson will be "God Blesses Us with Food".

Don't forget to sign up for a t-shirt for your child. There are three samples to see. The YXS is equivalent to a 2-4 and the YS is equivalent to a 6-8. We can also get a YM (10-12) if you need one. They do seem to run small!

No school next Tuesday the 29th as Williamson County Schools have a half-day.

We are gearing up to begin car lane. It will begin TUESDAY, OCTOBER 6th. Laminated car permits will begin to go home tomorrow along with directions for car lane. You will also notice a map on the back of the permit that shows you how to enter and exit the car lane area.

While we are on the topic of car lane. PLEASE be careful right now in the parking lot. Remember little children are walking into the building and with this rain right now, it is sometimes difficult to see the little ones! PLEASE, PLEASE be careful and take some extra time as you park, come in, and then exit. We have several concerned parents who have witnessed some close calls!

Nurturing Development

As I was working on curriculum today, I found an interesting bit of information on nurturing development for children getting ready to go to school. I thought that the Toddler 2 through Pre-K parents might find this worth putting into practice!

1. Allow your child to learn by doing.
2. Read, read, read, read to your child!
3. Envelop your child in language - describe, explain, discover, and communicate at every opportunity.
4. Ask your child to describe and explain things of interest.
5. Praise your child for asking questions. Asking a question shows a high level of thinking and reasoning.
6. Be patient as your child is learning. Don't try too hard or too early. Repetition and practice are helpful when the activity is fun.

By the way, I hear our teachers doing these very things with your children each and every Tuesday and Thursday!

Tuesday, September 22

Don't forget this coming Tuesday:

1. Bring your favorite fruit for the class. If possible, go ahead and cut up into bite size samples for the children. You can simply place them in a Ziploc type bag for easy clean-up for the teachers.

2. M.O.M. meeting at 9:15 AM for Nursery and Toddler moms. You will be out of there by 10:00 AM! Coffee and juice will be served.

Critter T-Shirts

It's time to order t-shirts for our little critters! We have three sample sizes for you to see (2T, YXS, YS). The 2T's are tiny, tiny. A 3T is only slightly bigger. A YXS is listed as a 2-4 and a YS is listed as a 6-8. They do shrink some, so keep that in mind.

There will be a list that you can sign with your choice of size for your child. If you are a returning family, sign the list if you need a new shirt size or sign "No, we do not need a new shirt.".

We will take orders Tuesday and Thursday of next week.

M.O.M.

The first M.O.M. group met yesterday and thank you to the moms who attended! There was a great discussion of how to organize and implement ideas. A big thank you to Haley Reasons who is going to be the coordinator for the Preschool/Pre-K group. She will be contacting you soon with details. There are four committees that we would like for you to consider joining.

1. Special Events/Social Activities
2. Fundraising/Scholarship
3. Hospitality
4. Teacher Appreciation

The M.O.M.'s group for Nursery/Toddler will meet next Tuesday at 9:15 A.M. in our break room next to the kitchenette.

Scholastic

Scholastic orders are due no later than next Tuesday, the 22nd. New order forms for October will go out tomorrow.

Thanks!

Tuition envelopes

Those of you who paid tuition and placed it in your child's envelope should have seen a PAID stamp with the date on the envelope yesterday. This is one of our attempts to stay organized! Please keep the same envelope for next month and we will repeat the process. If you haven't received an envelope in your child's folder, please let me know. If you are paying with direct deposit, we will inform you by the 25th if we haven't received payment. In other words - no news is good news!

Thanks for all your help as we attempt to become better accountants!

M.O.M.

The response to the M.O.M. group was fantastic! We have decided to form two groups for right now. One group will be mothers of Nursery and Toddler children, and the other group will be Preschool and Pre-K.

Mothers of Preschool and Pre-K will meet Tuesday, September 15 at 9:15 AM in our break room. Coffee and juice will be served. Plan on staying about 45 minutes.

Mothers of Nursery and Toddlers will meet Tuesday, September 22 at 9:15 AM in our break room. Coffee, juice, and 45 minutes also!

If you are a mom of both, just pick which one you would like to attend. If you are unable to attend, notes of the meeting will be available later in the week.

Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease

We wanted to let parents know that there have now been two cases of hand, foot, and mouth disease in the Nursery. This is a common virus occurring in summer and fall. It causes sores in the mouth, on hands, feet, and sometimes legs and buttocks. It is spread through coughing and sneezing. The incubation period is 3-6 days and there is also fever involved.

You can click on the title of this post to check out more information about the virus (it will take you directly to the site). Remember to keep your child home from MDO until he/she is fever-free for 24 hours.

Thanks!

New Addition to Pre-K

We are pleased to announce that Kelly Coyle will be joining our staff permanently beginning this coming Tuesday. Kelly will be teaching Pre-K 1 with Kellie Johnson, so yes, it will be Ms. Kellie and Ms. Kelly! Joyce Bell will now be teaching with Amy Smith in Pre-K 2. Kelly is also teaching at MOPS on Wednesdays and helps with children's ministry at FCC. We are so happy to have her become a part of FCC MDO!

Chapel

Thursday we will have our first Chapel time. This year we decided to divide Chapel into three groups. Pre-K and Preschool classes will meet first followed by Toddler 1 & 2 and then Nursery will have their own little Chapel Time.

Thursday's Lesson: God Blesses Us With His Creation

LABEL, LABEL, LABEL!

Dear Parents,

Thank you for a great start to our new year! The vast majority of the children seemed to adapt fairly quickly. You should see how Toddler 1 managed to line up and hold onto their shape ropes to take a trip outside today!

A few reminders though for Thursday! Please help our teachers by labeling everything in your tote bag. We will provide nametags for the bags soon, but the items inside need to be labeled: sippy cups, bottles, extra clothing (PLEASE don't forget to pack extra clothing!), nap mats, lunch boxes, etc.

As the teachers are trying to learn names, faces and little personalities, help them out by eliminating the guesswork on "whose cup is this one?"

Also, with 84 children, we cannot cook, heat or prepare lunches. Try simple finger foods such as apples, strawberries, carrots, sandwich meat, crackers, etc. that the little guys can eat themselves. Obviously, the older children can handle food that need to be eaten with spoons or forks.

Thank you for your cooperation in this. We look forward to seeing you on Thursday!

Curriculum

Copies of our curriculum will be on the foyer desk on Thursday. It was an item that I neglected to put in your Parent Handbooks.

The main thematic curriculum that we use comes from www.PreschoolCorner.com. They have about eleven different thematic units that you can choose from along with basics such as letters, numbers, colors, shapes, etc. This year we decided to divide the themes by months so that we only spend approximately a month on one unit. It is at the teachers' discretion how quickly they want to cover the academic subjects.

Each unit is divided into three groups: Toddler, Preschool and Advanced Preschool. We provide the teachers with all the materials which allows them to choose what best fits their class.

In addition we use educational and Christian based internet sites to supplement materials as well as The Parent/Teacher Store, www.Amazon.com and, of course, Scholastic.

This year I am creating two holiday curriculums: Thanksgiving and Christmas. Thanksgiving will explore If You Were at the First Thanksgiving which is a Scholastic book that I recently discovered. I am still debating on the Christmas unit!

The curriculum calendar will list both lessons for the day as well as any Chapel lessons on Thursday. It also includes the dates for the special activities planned.

So don't forget to pick up your copy on Thursday!
