During the month of December we all tend to be a little kinder, a little more patient, more loving, cheerful, giving, and forgiving. Since our focus is on what is good about this life we've been given, what better way to celebrate that than to attend a place that celebrates the One who gave us all this.
If you are not currently a member of a church, we would like to invite you to Franklin Christian Church to worship with us. We have two services: 9:15 and 10:45 AM. We will teach your children downstairs while you worship upstairs. The next few weeks will be on the greatest Christmas verse in the Bible (not Luke 2, by the way).
Come check us out and see what we are all about. We might help you keep that Christmas focus that was mentioned at the beginning of this post.
The purpose of Shining Light is to connect children and their families to Jesus Christ through the nurturing of their spiritual, emotional, social, cognitive, and physical growth.
Daily Scripture
In the same way, let your light shine in front of others. Then they will see the good things you do. And they will praise your Father who is in heaven.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION PLEASE READ
I realized this week that Williamson County schools are still in session December 19, 20. When we created the schedule back in May, I believed that the last day was a 1/2 day on the 20th. Obviously, I was wrong.
As a result, we have decided to have two half days on December 19 and 20. Since I had informed staff that the last day was the 18th at inservice, some made other plans. Some have children in other school systems that will already be out. So we are going to have to make a few accommodations.
That Wednesday and Thursday we will be in session 9:00 - noon. No car lane; no lunch or nap. This will be a time for you to get those last minute gifts, wrap a few packages, or if you are like me, go to the grocery store without buying a 100 things that you didn't need before your six year old came with you!
Next week our teachers will be asking who plans to attend those two half days. There will be no special parties or any other "important" activity. Once we have a firm number, we can see how many substitutes if any that we will need for those days.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask!

Happy Thanksgiving!
Shining Light wishes all of you a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends. We pray for safe travel and memorable moments. We are thankful for all our families at Shining Light and feel blessed to be able to care and teach your children.
Thank you also for the mission giving this week. We raised $96.45 for the week of 11/12. We are working toward a goal of $1000 to send to Samaritan's Purse for aid to Hurricane Sandy victims. A special thanks to Preschool 2 who raised $35.37 this first week followed by Pre-K 1 and Toddler 1 with $21.85 and $21.10 respectively. Again, thank you for your generosity!

Mission Project and Reminder
Don't forget to bring in your spare change for our Christmas project to help those in need on the east coast recovering from Hurricane Sandy. We will be sending a check to Samaritan's Purse in December. We plan to give a first week total tomorrow!
And a quick reminder: Shining Light CPC does NOT have its own bank account. As a non-profit we run everything through the church so any checks written to us must be made payable to FRANKLIN CHRISTIAN CHURCH not Shining Light. Thank you for understanding! P.S. You can abbreviate and write FCC!

Christmas Mission Project
Each year Shining Light does a mission project for Christmas. We have raised funds for World Vision and IDES as well as canned goods for The Well and toys for Graceworks. This year we felt led to support hurricane relief efforts on the east coast.
We would like to collect our spare change (or bills!) to send to Samaritan's Purse, http://www.samaritanspurse.org/ a Christian organization that has been around for over 40 years helping people in countries all over the world. They are currently sending trucks and supplies to assist the east coast in their efforts to rebuild after Hurricane Sandy.
Each class will have a donation jar where you can have your child place spare change (or bills!). We plan to collect beginning Monday, November 12 until Tuesday, December 11. We will announce the total amount raised at the Christmas programs on the 12th and 13th. OUR GOAL IS $1000. This number represents approximately $1 per Shining Light child per day (in other words $2 per week for your child).

In past years we have also done a $5 book exchange with the children in class. This year I have told the teachers to each decide what type of gift exchange if any that they would like to do with their class. They can be as creative as they would like as long as it comes in under $5! So be watching for e-mails and folder information to see what your child's class has decided to do this year at Christmas. Our Christmas Parties will be December 17 and 18 in conjunction with Polar Express Day.
Thank you in advance for your generosity!

Hand, Foot and Mouth
We have had another case of Hand, Foot and Mouth in the Nursery. This one was a little more serious as the child has blisters in throat and mouth. Please watch for low-grade fever and small blisters located in the areas for which it is named. It is a virus that has to run its course, but it can make little ones miserable. Thanks!
CAR LANE 101
CAR LANE 101
- Please place your car in park when you are one of the first three cars in line.
- Please keep your children buckled until we come to remove them from car.
- Please stay in the vehicle to avoid any mishaps with moving cars in other lane.
- Please use the pedestrian bridge when parking and coming in. The bridge with the big dip in it is the car lane bridge...for cars only!
- Please do not u-turn out of car lane and exit out the car lane entrance.
- Please do not park in the car lane lot in the mornings.
These are just concerns by our staff for the safety of you, your children and the teachers. Thanks so much for your help and cooperation!

Kroger Cares
Just a reminder to use your Kroger Cares card! Our last statement showed that we need less than $800 to receive a pay-out. We still have cards available if you need one. Send in $5 to get a $5 gift card tied to Shining Light CPC. Reload the card each time you shop at Kroger and we receive a percentage of the sale. It takes $5000 worth of spending before we receive a check, but we are close to that! (Do some Thanksgiving shopping!)
THANK YOU!

MIscellaneous
It was a fun week for us at Shining Light. The children were absolutely adorable, and our teachers got into the spirit of it all too, so we had some good laughs. Thank you to all the parents who brought treats and goodies for their class. Hopefully, we didn't send them home with too much sugar...I know our dentist will buy it back from you if need be :)
Next week we are out on Tuesday (6th) for the election (Wms. Co. is out that day). On Wednesday and Thursday we are going to have Patriotic Day. No party affiliation I can assure you! We are going to talk about our flag, country and what an election is. The colors of the day are RED, WHITE and BLUE, so have your child wear one or more of those colors! We will do a couple of fun activities to hopefully get our point across.
We are going to have one last big Scholastic order for the year. I set November and December catalogues on the front foyer desk. Please feel free to pick up as many as you want. I plan to place one order per week culminating with our last order on November 28th. This is the month to get your Christmas books, so please help us by placing an order! I also asked the teachers to make a wish list of books for their class. Reading such an important part of our day, and so if you are looking for a way to give back to the classrooms at Christmas, a new book would be just the ticket!
It was brought to my attention that if you place a Scholastic order online, the parents will receive a $5 off coupon for the next order. Scholastic tends to be hit or miss about sending us those, but we do have some and plan to send those home next week. I was confused about them, but I have someone who helps me out when I get confused :) (thanks, Marcy!) Once we see how many we have and how many more coupons we need, I will contact Scholastic to get it all straightened out.
