We would like to collect our spare change (or bills!) to send to Samaritan's Purse, http://www.samaritanspurse.org/ a Christian organization that has been around for over 40 years helping people in countries all over the world. They are currently sending trucks and supplies to assist the east coast in their efforts to rebuild after Hurricane Sandy.
Each class will have a donation jar where you can have your child place spare change (or bills!). We plan to collect beginning Monday, November 12 until Tuesday, December 11. We will announce the total amount raised at the Christmas programs on the 12th and 13th. OUR GOAL IS $1000. This number represents approximately $1 per Shining Light child per day (in other words $2 per week for your child).
In past years we have also done a $5 book exchange with the children in class. This year I have told the teachers to each decide what type of gift exchange if any that they would like to do with their class. They can be as creative as they would like as long as it comes in under $5! So be watching for e-mails and folder information to see what your child's class has decided to do this year at Christmas. Our Christmas Parties will be December 17 and 18 in conjunction with Polar Express Day.
