Daily Scripture

In the same way, let your light shine in front of others. Then they will see the good things you do. And they will praise your Father who is in heaven.

Reminders

Fall parties are this week (Wednesday and Thursday)!  Make sure you read your class e-mail to see what you need to bring.

The children will start the day with a costume parade.  If the weather is pretty, we walk along the sidewalks and across the pedestrian bridge and along the creek.  The children will be able to get candy along the way from our specials teachers and administrative staff.  We may even have a visit from our church office friends!

If it rains, we have a route through the church building leading into our youth auditorium, so we will have the parade come rain or shine!

Parties will take place after the parade, and in the afternoon, our older children will watch Spookly the Square Pumpkin in our chapel room.  This is a good little story about accepting differences in each other.

Thank you to those who bought Kroger Cares cards!  Please use them as often as you can.  Just remember to ask the cashier BEFORE you check out to load it up.  I will keep directions on the blog if you need a refresher course!

Flyers are coming home for Chick-Fil-A night on November 7th.  Please check folders!

Finally, I'm sorry about the delay in some of these e-mails.  I have to manually set the time to send within a two hour window.  I found out that the two hour window cannot have already begun or it delays it 24 hours...so irritating!

Updates

  • Don't forget!  We will be here on Friday, the 18th to make-up for Monday, the 14th.
  • Tuition for November was due October 15th.
  • Next week (October 21-24) we will have Kroger Cares cards and Shining Light car magnets available for purchase in the foyer (Look for Betsy).  Each are $5.  The Kroger card is worth $5.  Right now we have only four families using the Kroger card which is why we are having trouble earning $$ for classroom toys!  Please consider helping us out.  This is our only major fundraising that we do, but it only succeeds if the majority use it at least occasionally!
  • Costume parades/Fall Parties are October 30 and 31st.  Teachers are collecting for pumpkins and candy in most of the classes.  We buy our pumpkins from the Cooper Trooper Pumpkin Patch which raises funds for childhood cancer family support.  Cooper Cook is one of our former SL children and a cancer survivor, and we always want to give our support to this great organization and wonderful family.  You can buy your large pumpkins there too!  They are located across from Lowe's and next to Walgreens on Mallory Lane.
  • Please remember no scary or occult costumes (devil, witch, serial killers...) for our costume parade!
And finally, our morning teacher devotions are centered around the book 1,2,3 Magic for Christian Parents by Thomas W. Phelan, Ph.D. and Chris Webb, M.S., M.A., NCC.  The discipline method involves counting the behavior and many of our teachers are using this in their classroom.  The most interesting thing is that our teachers who use it at home and then find it used at school are finding great results.  The cohesiveness of discipline methods between home and school can be very valuable.  If you are having any trouble with discipline at home or feel the need to be more consistent, please be sure and read this book.  You can find it on Amazon.

Supporting St. Jude

One of our preschool teachers, Ms. Laurel is running her first marathon on 12/7/13.  She is running to support the children of St. Jude.  Her goal is to raise $500.  Please help her meet this goal!  We have a container on the front foyer desk.  Please consider donating to this worthy cause.  We will take change, paper bills, or a check made out to St. Jude.  If you would rather donate online, please go to:  www.heroes.stjude.org/Laurel.  Ms. Laurel has also provided a list of where your dollars go when you donate to this wonderful organization.

Thanks for your support!

Kroger and Scholastic

Please consider helping us out with our two fundraisers:  Scholastic and Kroger Cares cards.

The next Scholastic order will go in October 15th.  October catalogues are here, and we even have the holiday ones as well.  We will have them set out on the foyer desk.  We are just a few bonus points away from being able to order a complete listening center (CD player/cabinet/multiple headphones) for our Pre-K classes.

We are quite low on our Kroger balance.  We need about $3000 before we receive a check.  You can get a Kroger Cares Card by sending in $5 to Betsy.  Look for her in the afternoons out front or send in envelope with Kroger written on it.

Here is how it works:
1.  Before you check out, ask the cashier to put $$ on your card.
2.  Use the gift card instead of your regular debit or credit card.
3.  We receive 5% of what you placed on the card!

A HUGE thank you to those who are
currently using the cards!
