SCHOLASTIC INSTRUCTIONS

TO ACCESS SCHOLASTIC ONLINE:

1. GO TO www.Scholastic.com/bookclubs .

2. Click "Parent"

3. Go to first time registration.

4. Create your own username and password.

5. When prompted, enter the one-time Class Activation Code (GPTH7).

We earn books each time a parent places an order online. In addition we will earn ten extra books this month if we place an order.

Books will be sent to FCC after the due date (September 20). We will distribute them to you as soon as they arrive!

First Day

At FCC MDO we always seem to forget what the first day is like! We are so accustomed to the routine by the end of the year that we forget it's like starting all over again. Overall I thought the children adjusted wonderfully. Nursery felt it was a better first day than last year (sorry - last year's nursery!). Ms. Maria and Ms. Joyce felt that Chapel had a wonderful start, and the kids enjoyed playing outside in the beautiful weather. Our returning children seemed very happy to be back with all their old friends. In fact my child apparently broke down because it was time to go home, and she wasn't done playing!

While the weather is nice, we are adapting the front to a play area. We will have an area blocked off with cones, but if you come in the middle of the day, just be sure and be careful in the parking lot.

Your child was sent home with a Scholastic catalogue(s). I worked on the website last night but want to check it one more time before I send out the codes. Wouldn't you know they redid the website just when I had mastered the old one :) We will take orders online or you can send in until September 20th for the September catalogues.

Of course, I always remember information AFTER the meeting.

1. Right now we do not have internet downstairs at the church. I hope to correct that soon; however, for the time being, if you need to contact us at church during MDO hours, please call 790-6605 ext. 21. If you e-mail that your child is going to be absent, I won't get it until that evening. I hope to have internet by September though and will let you know.

2. Some of you have requested that your husbands be added to the blog. Unfortunately, as a private blog, I am only allowed 100 names. Between all the children, teachers, FCC children's ministry staff (I even had to combine them instead of individually!), I am about at our limit. I need to keep it at one e-mail per household. If you would like to change the e-mail address to another one that both of you can access, just let me know and we will make the changes. I am so sorry, but the limit is out of my control!

3. For those of you who may have missed this announcement since it was not on the form, if you have texting capabilities on your cell phone, would you please let us know so that we can add that to your emergency contact forms? Thanks!

There will be class lists on the front doors and people who can direct you to your classroom. After meeting your child's teachers, please leave your child in the classroom and join me in the chapel area for a meeting. There will be some paperwork to fill out in addition to the meeting.

This week at FCC MDO

This will be a busy week at MDO as our teachers have inservice both Tuesday and Thursday in order to get ready for your little ones. They will be discussing goals and objectives for 2010-11 as well as making lesson plans and decorating their rooms.

Our first unit: All About Me (includes activities getting to know your child, family, friends and pets as well as studying the five senses. This year we are including states (the first, of course, Tennessee)and lessons on manners ("please" and "thank you" being our first topic). Our first unit will cover the colors red and blue, the shapes circle and square. And finally, in this first unit your child will study the concepts of same/different and opposites.

Ms. Maria and Ms. Joyce are busily preparing our first Bible unit for chapel. Ms. Kassie is gearing up to teach Spanish, and Ms. Maria always has plenty of music activities ready for music class!

We would like to welcome our new Spanish teacher, Ms. Kassie to FCC MDO! Kassie Marte grew up here at Franklin Christian Church, became a missionary in the Dominican Republic and married her husband there. She is here for the school year and is going to teach the little ones some Spanish on Tuesdays! Each class, including the nursery, will enjoy songs, stories and short lessons in Spanish with Ms. Kassie. We hope you enjoy this addition to our curriculum!
